Centered around excellence, The George Washington University Hospital is a 385-bed hospital in DC, that focuses on high-quality healthcare, advanced medical technology, and world class service. In October 2014, the hospital converted a space previously used by the university to add a 16-bed intensive care unit. Requiring a seamless floor for infection control, WJ Architects chose TUF STUF High Performance Flooring resilient sheet products to be installed along with Teknoflor products. To avoid a sterile feel and to help identify the infection control zones in each patient’s room, TUF STUF Plank You Very Much, Classic Cut, and Fancy Free were used to create a floor pattern design. The team ensured successful inspections and the project received the ABC Metro Washington and Virginia Excellence in Construction Award as well as the ABC National Excellence in Construction Pyramid Award.
